A combination of theater, audience participation, multimedia stage show, and rock concert party, Sunspot’s “Major Arcana” links live performances of their songs with the story of Joe, a recent college graduate who lives most of his life online. The audience sees Joe through the eyes of the people he meets in the digital world, especially an Internet Psychic whose Tarot readings form the heart of the story.

In “Eat Out My Heart” comes the idea that there’s no way to win, that separating from humanity is the best way because when you care too much, you lose. It’s about the nastiest of any breakup song out there. The character is a slave to his idea that he’s been hurt. “Eat Out My Heart” is a song about hating someone else and being a big old victim. It’s wallowing in self-pity and delusion that someone else is to blame for why the character feels stung. As long as the character is encumbered by those emotions, they never get better. It’s not about being upset with the girl who this song is for, because that girl isn’t suffering. It’s the character singing who is being punished and he’s punishing himself. The Devil is the card of self-bondage to an idea or belief which is preventing a person from growing or being healthy. It is the card of futility, pessimism, and mistakes.

Sunspot’s “Major Arcana” tour was about creating a completely new type of experience that’s personal like a rock concert has the emotional weight of a musical, that’s dynamic visually like a film, and has the depth of great literature. The band premiered the show at SXSW and took it on a tour of America’s East Coast, Midwest and South.Recorded at The Annex in Madison on the last night of their tour and is a complete live production specially recorded, along with tour videos, deleted scenes, bonus songs, a commentary track, and other special features. This DVD is the culmination of the tour and stage show. can be picked up here: http://sunspot.bandcamp.com/merch/major-arcana-dvd

Lyrics

I’ve been waiting so long for you to call,
but now you’re finally here and I’m a wreck.
Worked out a little, even did my hair,
but I’m not the man I used to be back there.

I hope you have an ugly boyfriend,
I hope you’re working at a carwash,
I hope your life went down the drain and everything is not okay,
I hope your best years passed you up.

I dodged a bullet,
One or two since then,
You’re not the only one who still calls me up.
I’m still the jerkoff who listens to your problems,
I never told you all the times,
I’d wished you died in a car crash.

I hope you have an ugly boyfriend,
I hope you’re working at a carwash,
I hope your life went down the drain and everything is not okay,
I hope your best years passed you up.

I’m eating out my heart.
I’m eating out my heart.

And I’m not happy for you,
That you’re a better person without me.
I’m so glad you decided to apologize,
When I’m too numb to care,
I’m just too numb to care.

I hope you have an ugly boyfriend,
I hope you’re working at a carwash,
I hope your life went down the drain and everything is not okay,
I hope your best years passed you up.
