Major Arcana – Sunspot Live – 10. Alive Day

“Alive Day” represents the Judgment tarot card. The Judgement card shows a number of naked men, women and children rising up from their graves, arms outspread and responding to the trumpet call of the archangel, Gabriel, who hovers high above them. The people are appealing to the angel, ready to be judged by the power of the Universe.

This is Joe coming back from his depression. This is him changing his mind about what and he that he wants to be. This is him riding dangerously close to the edge and coming back, learning acceptance, and only by being so close to his own demise does he realize that he wants to live.

Sunspot’s “Major Arcana” tour was about creating a completely new type of experience that’s personal like a rock concert has the emotional weight of a musical, that’s dynamic visually like a film, and has the depth of great literature. The band premiered the show at SXSW and took it on a tour of America’s East Coast, Midwest and South. Recorded at The Annex in Madison on the last night of their tour and is a complete live production specially recorded, along with tour videos, deleted scenes, bonus songs, a commentary track, and other special features. This DVD is the culmination of the tour and stage show: https://sunspot.bandcamp.com/merch/major-arcana-dvd

Lyrics

Did you earn your freedom?
Did you earn your place?
Did you earn the right to spit in my face?

When the shell pushed my head,
into the black,
there was no tunnel,
no one to guide me.

This is the day that I died,
The best day of my life.

As the flesh buckled under,
as the muscle burned.
As I watched the flame,
take the fire from me.
There was no flashing,
there was no white light.
All I had was that moment,
electrify me.

This is the day that I died,
The best day of my life.
No one can understand,
the fortune that it implied.
That was the day that I died,
Don’t even think to cry,
and now I have a chance to be a better man.

This is the day that I died,
The best day of my life.
No one can understand,
No one can understand.
I’m half the skin, but twice the human.
Part machine but more alive.
Less the parts, but greater the sum.
I’m more than the spirit that survived.

This is the day that I died,
The best day of my life.
This is the day that I died,
The best day of my life.
